Having a hard time coming up with new writing prompts for your classes? Tired of the same ones year after year?   Give the Scholastic Story Starters Adventure Generator a try.  What I like about using this generator is that it works great with your interactive whiteboard and the prompts are broken specifically by grade levels (K-1, 2, 3 and 4-6).
Have your students come up and pick from one of the four themes, enter your class name, choose your grade level, click the spin lever and away you go! You can always choose to re-spin one of the wheels if you don't like the word/description that appears.  Need more ideas on how to use the story starter?  Just click on the "Teacher's Guide" in the upper right hand corner to see what Scholastic has to offer for lesson ideas.  Try it with your students next time you do a writing project. Your students will love it!

"The desire to create is create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul." ~Dieter F. Uchtdorf

One of my goals as an Integration Specialist is to get teachers to see the value in letting students CREATE with the tech tools that we are integrating into their curriculum.
Too often I see educators using devices to CONSUME information.  I believe there is a time and place for consuming in the classroom, but I also believe that CREATING is going to lead to much deeper learning.

Think about it.

When was the last time you created something? It had your attention. You were engaged. Why do you think Pinterest is so popular?  It gives us a ton of ideas about things we can/could CREATE!

Now think of a time when you just had to consume information, whether it be from a lecture, looking facts up in a text or by using the internet to complete a worksheet. You probably had to regurgitate that information back on a test, then you conveniently forgot everything you just "learned."
I challenge you to give it a shot with your students during your next unit, chapter or assessment.

 Let them be CREATORS!
